fridaystar:tfw you’re stretched thin trying to protect the dozens of cats under your command, each of them with different wishes pulling you in different directions, while simultaneously trying to prevent a war with your bratty nephew to somehow follow the supposed advice of a bunch of dead assholes youve been told to listen to for your whole life, meanwhile your partner and second in command is unhappy with your relationship and you love her but you don’t know how to fix it because she won’t tell you, and despite having forgiven her for a major betrayal in your past and knowing her heart is in the right place she continues to deceive you and neglect to communicate with you to the point of repeatedly publicly undermining your authority and further shattering the faith in your leadership of the cats entrusted to your care, and wanting to have more children because you know it would make her happy but not feeling prepared to take on additional responsiblity due to the aforementioned stressors currently dominating your life, but the fandom still just thinks youre being abusivealternatively: I liked squirrelflights hope and I love bramblestar and squirrelflight and I wish they would just talk to each other So you might have noticed this post has been deleted for a while, so I can’t edit the original to add this but I just want to say I definitely don’t feel the same way about this book (or about Bramblestar) as I did when I made it. At the time I was frustrated by the idea that the authors intended him to be an abusive character (I still don’t think that’s what was intended, and ultimately he’s a worse character for it bc the authors lack a lot of awareness about the content they put in the books and how to handle it tastefully without inadvertently treating harmful relationships and interactions as if they’re normal or okay). I never meant for this to be any kind of assertion about real-life abuse, or insinuate that being in a bad place means you can’t still harm others as a result - but I understand that it definitely came across that way and I’m sincerely sorry. I also should have put this addendum on this post a LOT sooner, but since I don’t see activity from it anymore I unfortunately had no idea how much traction it ended up getting.
