todayinhistory:March 5th 1770: Boston MassacreOn this day in 1770, five Americans were killed and six more injured by British troops in the ‘Boston Massacre’. The troops were there to enforce the unpopular laws which had been passed by the British Parliament without the consent of the Americans. The soldiers were arrested and charged with murder but most were acquitted after future President John Adams defended them at trial. The incident fuelled the tensions between the North American colonies and Great Britain, and contributed to the outbreak of the American War of Independence. -- source link
