clichegames:sassy-gay-justice:fullten:nefepants:outerspace-invader:nefepants:outerspace-invader:This just in - su side of tumblr having a melt down over an awesome garnet cosplayThis is hilarious because OP is actually trying to equate blackface to whiteface when white skin and white features are seen as the ideal all while black features are demonized across the board. Which is essentially why being white and donning black features is extremely disgusting, because those same white people don’t have to deal with the discrimination behind those features they can just wipe off with a wet napkin. You really need to understand what colorism and social power dynamics are, because your ignorance is GLARING.Please tell me a time you were discriminated against and please don’t be like “this person looked at me in the store and it’s because I was black (or whatever poc)”I’m the absolute worst person to pose this question to, because I’m a light-skinned black person. That means that although I do experience discrimination for the parts of me that ARE clearly black like where I live, my name, and some of my features like my nose, it’s nowhere near as severe as the discrimination dark-skinned black people experience. Not even remotely. For example, I’ve been questioned and detained by police but I’ve never been brutalized by them, not even once. But literally the rest of my biological family, who not so coincidentally all have dark skin, have all been physically BEATEN by police and have experienced constant professional discrimination as well. Just a few out of countless ways they’re mistreated for being dark.Ask me the question “what kind of discrimination have you experienced”, and of course it’ll seem like I’m being unreasonable. But ask a dark-skinned black person the same question, and their answer will have you shutting the fuck up REAL fast. Why do white people keep asking for proof of racism??? Like that shit isn’t glaringly obvious. Like there isn’t tons of statistics and lived experiences happening right now all around us that prove that black people experience racism. I mean how dense can you be to not see how much black people get shat on, this post being another drop in the bucket of bullshit. “Please tell me a time you were discriminated against”Lmao honey if you knew how many times I’ve seen “no blacks” on a gay/bi dude’s dating profile. If you knew how many times I’ve had to ask myself “Am I light enough to be dateable?” If you knew how many times I’ve been outright stared at for being in a predominantly white part of the US like I had a tail growing out of my ear.You wouldnt be saying shit right now.So please, just hush.I’ve had teachers trying to flunk me even though I was doing all the required work damn near perfectly, and this was in elementary school. Luckily I had a really engaged mom who got me out of that school really quick but that one teacher could have had my whole life fucked up from there.Even so decades latter I’m still not quite as confident in myself as I was before that teacher, although I hadn’t made the connection until know but that’s about when it started. -- source link
