It’s called CLOSING for a reason peopleBoxing Day two years ago I was forced to work, even though I was the only employee in the store who’d worked both Christmas Eve and Boxing Day. But whatever - didn’t really mind. Work is work.Now, there’s only a few members of staff in this store - it’s a designer boutique, so it can run with just 2 members of staff in at any one time, and lucky me, I’m the assistant manager. Anyway, I was alone for this last hour/cashing up the register. Just as I’m getting the keys at 5 minutes to close, ready to shut the doors, this guy wanders in.Okay, whatever. He’s probably going to take a small look around and then leave. I bite my tongue and smile. 10 minutes pass and he’s still looking around. I’ve helpfully reminded him several times that we’re closing now. He magically thinks if I’m in the store, it remains open, and it’s his personal shopping experience. He finally chooses something. Pays for it, taking his time, despite that I’ve closed the register. And then…just as I think ‘it’s over. I can leave and enjoy what’s left of the holiday season with my fiance (who had JUST moved over from the states and I was eager to spend time with)’ this guy sees something else and brings it to he counter.‘I wanted this one, not what I just bought. I didn’t see this. Can I exchange it?’At this point I’m nearly ready to explode but I do what he asks. We had an irritating process with exchanges and returns at this place due to the expensive nature of the items. So it takes another 5 minutes for me to run his exchange through. Finally he leaves and I have to sort out the register. I get out of work on Boxing Day nearly forty minutes late. I miss one of the very few busses running and have to wait another hour. I got home from work on a holiday almost 2 hours late because this one human turd thought he was entitled to extra shopping time.Don’t be that asshole. Respect employees.
