oakapedia: According to an old interview with former show director and current storyboard artist Masamitsu Hidaka, Kojiro (James) was originally a woman that only appeared to be male because she she wore a male Rocket uniform. Her real name was Kojiroko. The infamous beach episode is actually the earliest proof of that concept. Furthermore, she was to be a potential love interest for Takeshi (Brock). However, former Nintendo President Hiroshi Yamauchi strongly disliked this idea and ordered it to be scrapped. They edited it the scene from the beach episode, and made it to where Kojiro had inflatable breasts instead of real ones. Even still, Yamauchi was not at all pleased with the beach episode despite the edits, and nearly fired him on the spot. Fortunately, the show’s smash success made him decide otherwise, merely assigning company eyes to watch over production of the show. Holy crud guys! I looked into it, and it’s actually true!
