Octavo: “Are you sure this shirt isn’t too tacky?”Vaati: “‘Tis called 'fashion’, my dear.”For someone whose life story revolves around a hat, I always wondered why I insisted on drawing Vaati without his hat all these years. To me, his hat (of any kind) symbolises power– so to have him without a hat is to strip him of his power source– to make him powerless…To make him mortal; more relatable.A “meek, miniscule nothing”.(But that, and drawing his hair sticking up is just funny to me.)So, I was thinking, “What if I drew him in a hat again at least once?”And thus, I put him in a cloche hat… And then I got carried away with the strawberry-print washi-tape.This type of hat really suits him, I think.…The strawberry-print shirt for Octavo, though… Not so much.I just really love 1920s fashions. That’s mainly why I put my stories in the 1920s… -- source link
