loreweaver-universe: The tavern-keeper commissioned this sign eight years ago from a passing artist of some repute. The artist only had a single night to stay, but took a hefty payment in gold and an even heftier payment in wine to do this work, and, oh, was the tavern-keeper excited! Finally, a sign worthy of their fine establishment! Finally, something well-made to draw attention and bring in customers! Something to help the tavern stand out! The tavern-keeper asked for their initials, D.L., two shining suns, and Bella, their favorite horse. Oh, what a glorious morning it would be!Come the morning, the artist, bleary and hungover, handed the tavern-keeper the keys to her room, muttered something about the sign drying under the window’s light, and staggered out to her coach, where she boarded with her supplies and rode off into the sunrise. Excitedly, the tavern-keeper rushed upstairs to the room, barely noticing the clink of the empty wine bottles as the door shoved them aside. There, on the desk beneath the window, lay the new sign, emblazoned with their initials, as they had asked, standing proud at the corners of the sign; two brilliant suns, as they had asked, that they swore they could see giving off their own faint light; and a magnificent representation of Bella, their most favorite horse, as they had asked, flowing tail, brilliant white coat……and perfectly upside-down, flat on her back, with her hooves in the air.
