infjconfessions: swampgallows: shakeyourmanetmaker: theproblematicblogger: growinglittlebooger: mariposa-mama: thegingerdementor: I’ve never thought about this before. What does everyone else think? Couldn’t agree more. So important. I never understood why Santa gave all my friends these huge, expensive things when he’d give us modest necessities. Santa isn’t real Yes, don’t buy your kids really nice luxury items because some people can’t afford them. Do you understand how selfish that is? They’re just saying not to label them as “from Santa”. You can give your kids luxuries, just let them know they came from the parents and not Santa. Santa might have told the parents “so and so wants a PS4”, but when one kid gets a PS4 “from Santa” and the other kid at school gets socks “from Santa”, socks kid is gonna suffer some kind of moral crisis thinking he wasn’t “good enough” to get what he wanted rather than the fact that his parents are most likely fettered by the shackles of capitalism etc etc I’ve literally seen little kids think that Santa likes rich kids more because they’re ‘better’. It’s easier for children (especially disadvantaged children) to think that they have shortcomings than to think THE WHOLE WORLD is lying, no matter how logical it might seem as an adult. And often times, Santa is one of the few happy beliefs they have so even shedding the fantasy is not a nice option. Take this into consideration. Gift your kid all you want, just make sure that he knows he’s getting it because YOU as the parent can buy it. Your kid will be as happy, and it’ll save many little ones from heartbreak if their parents might not be able to get them much. -- source link
