I was today years old when I found out Emi from Majokko Megu-chan was based on an existing fashion doll, called Fushigiko Emi-chan: Emi first appears in episode 30, and unfortunately replaced Meg’s existing best friend Roko. I always loved Roko, so I was pretty upset when she got replaced. Also, Emi’s design never seemed right to me, and now I know why. Turns out the sponsor wanted to include Emi as a way to promote the doll?Also, despite the fact they did Roko dirty, she continued to make cameo appearances in the series.
