perfectlymarilynmonroe: Marilyn Monroe as Elsie Marina in The Prince and the Showgirl (1957), directed by Sir. Lawrence Olivier.Although she was honored to work with Olivier, she was anxious for him to direct. These worries came to fruition when the two clashed on set. She felt inferior compared to many of the cast who had appeared in the stage version, not to mention she was in an unfamiliar environment being in another country and just weeks into her new marriage to Arthur Miller. At the same time, Milton H. Greene, her friend and business partner, seemed to be far from an ally. Marilyn relied heavily on her drama coach, Paula Strasberg, whose presence on set caused headaches for everyone else involved. When the film wrapped after about four months of filming, reporters asked Marilyn questions regarding the “feuds” and “arguments” on set. “There were no more than the usual difficulties connected with filmmaking,” was her simple response. The New York Daily News reported her work with the Strasberg’s and The Method and how it was evident throughout production. They wrote that in her script she was to say, “Gosh,” but feeling that that word was inauthentic to her character, she told Paula Strasberg “I don’t feel like ‘gosh!’—I want to say, ‘Oh, my goodness!’” Finally, Marilyn let it be, and said, “Well, I’ll say ‘gosh’ but I’ll be thinking ‘oh, my goodness!’”Marilyn also won two foreign awards for her performance, the Italian David Di Donatello and the French Crystal Star. -- source link
