tootyfruities: wilwheaton:(via vtuuhf2mzu481.jpg (1170×2016)) [image id: a tweet from twitter user tim_13 reads “@kelloggsusa i need help.” the official kellogg’s twitter account then responds, “hey tim– thanks for reaching out, how can we help?”tim then responds with a lengthier tweet, saying “you can get rid of your piece of shit ceo who just fired 1400 people for rejecting his offer of a 3 cent raise while he continues to make $11 million per year. I’m boycotting this company untill kellogg’s makes this right and anybody reading this, i hope you’ll do the same.” end id]hey hey ik you mean well but please don’t reblog that version that doesn’t have any follow-ups! and also no, please don’t boycott kelloggs!how it works is that if you boycott, yes you take a little bit of the profit away;;; but when there’s a workers’ strike where they are refusing to make the product, and then you try and boycott the company at the same time, then a very low amount (or no) product is being made and there’s also a low demand for said product so your local CEO just shrugs and says, no big deal we’ll figure out the demand thing as soon as this strike thing blows over. you’re putting less pressure on the people who are doing the exploiting.how this strike is set up is, the product is not being made and the strikers are betting on the fact that demand stays high. that way, no product is made and a lot of people still want to buy it, so the company in question can’t meet deadlines and can’t satisfy their consumers, etc etc.by boycotting, yes you take some of their profits but you also give less power to those on strike. in fact, if you want to support them, it’d actually be better to buy out your local store’s entire supply of kellogg’s products. maybe don’t go that extreme, but if you want to help then, in this case, buying is better than boycotting.listen to your strikers before making posts like that. find their resources, what they actually want. boycotting is effective and i know you have the right thing in mind; but in this situation, it doesn’t help the strikers. -- source link
