On August 27, 2020, Hurricane Laura made landfall near the Louisiana-Texas border, coming ashore as the region’s strongest storm in more than a century. The Category 4 storm weakened in the following days as it moved inland, but ultimately caused more than $16.1 billion in damage and 77 deaths.
