No? OK, it’s just me….anyway the reason is that Macassar Oil and similar hair “treatments” were greasy and would stain the furniture. It was easier to wash a doily covered in hair oil then it was to get the stain out of the back of the chair, so ladies began covering everything with doilies. Now you know. Don’t you feel better?
