armadillo-dreaming:softskyburial:fuckyeahanarchopunk:the revolution of everyday lifeThis was the first action the BPP did. They started sending armed crossing guards to this intersection to make sure kids could cross safely. Like these dudes with guns walking kids across the street. The city decided that intersection did indeed need a stop light. BPP history needs more markers like this because I only learned these things from neighbors when I lived in the neighborhood. Oral history is real. [ID: a high visibility sign securely attached to the post with the Black Panther Party logo at the bottom. The sign reads:“On August 1, 1967 This stoplight was installed as a result of a community initiative spearheaded by the Black Panther Party.” /end ID] -- source link
