weirdmarioenemies: HAPPY CRABBIVERSARY That’s right! One year ago today, we began our celebration of crabs all throughout the Marioverse! There may not be enough left to warrant another, but we are ALWAYS appreciating crabs, and hopefully, you are too! Here, we see a crab from the Manta Rings minigame in Mario Party 4, courtesy of Suppermariobroth! What better than a flag-waving crab to usher in the next chapter of your life? Nothing! This crab loves you and wants you to succeed. Do you trust it? I do. Look how realistic it is!Speaking of realistic… I think I’ll use this opportunity to share my favorite crabs! Top three, in no particular order, here we go!First, we have Ghost Crab! This one is simply a cutie patootie, and I don’t know if there’s anything particularly unique about it, but there doesn’t have to be. A cute crab is a cute crab!Next is Boxer Crab! Hands down (hehe) one of the coolest examples of mutualism in nature, the boxer crab has decided that pinching is for chumps, and instead carries a pair of anemones! The crab gets a weapon against predators, the anemones get to eat what the crab leaves behind, and we get to look at a splendid trio of ocean buddies. Everyone wins! And lastly, Fiddler Crab! A popular choice, to be sure, but for good reason. That one big claw on the males is hilarious, especially when they use it to wave! And where the ghost crab’s eyestalks are the pinnacle of cuteness, the fiddler’s are the pinnacle of silliness (though they’re still pretty dang cute). And don’t think I was just going to gloss over the females, either. They deserve your respect just as much! Some may say their tiny claws make them uninteresting, and these people are cowards. Look how delightful those tiny hands are! Much more efficient for feeding than the male’s big one, too. Evolution is all about tradeoffs. Would you rather have two useful claws, or one useful claw and one sexy claw?I hope you enjoyed this out-of-the-ordinary post that was not planned at all beforehand and ended up mostly being me gushing about crabs! Was your favorite crab not mentioned? Do you have any fun crab facts the world should know? Let us know! And remember, when you love crabs with your pure heart, every week is Crab Week! Our next post will return to our normal Mario-focused programming! -- source link
