New project I made with Kaori! “Spirit chimeras” silkscreen print on a natural dyed cotton, an exhibition piece in collaboration with Kaori Pie for Grafische werkplaats, the Hague. We are all different yet we share some similarities. We try to fit into certain groups but tend to differ from others. We try to place our differences and similarities into categories like ethnicity, upbringing, race or gender. To emphasise how different and yet how similar we all are, we created a universe of chimeras that all share certain body parts or patterns as well as have their own unique parts. They exist together and seem wildly different while still sharing something with one another. We are moving towards a society that is mixing influences and more and more, cultures are being intertwined and translated into other expressions. As we are reborn into new lives with different societal and cultural constructs, we can’t help but be influenced or inspired by what we see in other people from around the wold. Passion and the spirit in the human mind find these connections that draw us to each other to learn and to feel engaged in a broader mission than to find reasons to divide us into our differences. Here is the world where our creatures live, with their powers both shared as well as expressed in a different way. -- source link
