kataangcaps:calvindile:I have another confession to make.I find Aang one of the most amazing characters I have ever seen, and if you hate or judge him, you should probably not tell me unless you want to get on my bad side. Imho everyone calling him “childish” or “stupid” has no idea about what strength he shows, about that soft, but incredibly strong power he radiates, how his peacefulness and playfulness are signs of his strong convictions. Everyone who dislikes him for being pliant and harmony seeking didn’t get the point of his background. The key of the Air Nomads’ philosophy is not to be self-centered, but to live to help and be there for others. The most important part is being at peace with yourself, letting emotions flow through you and not trying to take out your conflicts on others, bringing harmony to yourself and those around you. He may still have problems with some of these aspects, but it’s the basis for everything he is doing, and he is doing an amazing job for a 12/13 years old boy.Aang is not a pussy for being a pacifist. He is the strongest character I know for always trying to achieve solutions through non-violent behavior. It’s easy to lash out in anger and hurt, but to keep calm and to struggle for a peaceful solution, without hitting back, takes a lot of inner strength. There is also a lot more strength in forgiveness than in being bent on revenge and hate. He shows so much maturity during so many conflicts, but people interpret him and his actions as weak and spineless. Aang is just a boy, yet beneath his cheerful attitude is a strong, calm nature and wisdom beyond his age. He of course still is a goofy kid, but it’s amazing how he grows into the role of the Avatar responsible for the whole fucking world despite of his age. And still keeps being this goofy kid through all this.Additionally, I am shocked at how many people seriously believe Aang has no problems or no loss to deal with. Seriously people? Just because he is a good-natured, fun-loving boy you assume he had no shit to deal with? He lost his whole frickin nation, how is that for a loss? He lost everyone he cared about, and that’s not all! With the fact that he slept for a hundred years, he lost (except for Bumi) absolutely EVERYONE he knew. Of course he was upset about this, but he did not cry about it half as much as every single one of us would have in that situation. He tried to go on, he tried to let go, and he did! He found new friends, a new family and a new place to be. That doesn’t mean he will ever forget about his people. It’s that he was taught not to hold on to bad feelings. He can overcome them and open up for everything new and good.FUCK, I love this boy. He allows himself to love so much when he lost EVERYTHING at such a young age and in such a difficult situation. He is able to have fun, to let light shine through him, when it couldn’t get any worse. And he is able to show others how peace and harmony are not just something to brag about, but that it can be a part of themselves, and how wonderful that is. Long story short: Everyone who calls this boy whiny, stupid, childish or a “boring hero character” will get internet-slapped in the face by me personally. -- source link
