uncle-anwar: celestia: franslair: gloomybun: franslair: gloomybun: notcisjustwoman: trillslut: Move over heart disease and cancer, according to tumblr, there’s a new number one cause of death in this country: MISOGYNY! That’s right you heard it here first! Men LITERALLY kill more women than anything else. Yet another shocking revelation brought to you by tumblr feminism! aww does the truth make you mad lil dude? He is so surprised by this. Like yes misogyny does kill women. Heard of domestic violence mate? Domestic violence is a gender neutral issue, and I am amazed by this jump of logic: “domestic violence exists, therefore men literally murder billions of women” Men commit more violence than women. Men commit more violence on women and on men than women do so yeah men are the problem. Domestic violence is gender neutral, with women committing the majority of non-reciprocal abuse. So yeah, people like you are the problem. And again you are replying to an argument that is different than the one I made. um actually “Although results of some surveys have suffested that men are as likely as women to be battered by partners (Stets and Straus 1990) these are thought to be methodologically flawed (Browne 1990) and the impact of domestic violence is greater on women." Intimate Partner Violence as a Risk Factor for Mental Disorders: A Meta- Analysis - Jacqueline M. Golding. this is the problem with your anti feminism, it has no roots in academia, therefore it has no logical, scientific basis because it’s literally just all wrong. you guys pull out surveys that were taken on the side of the street but we have libraries full of published information that supports our claims. please try again. The idea of women committing more or as much physical abuse as men usually stems from the Conflict Tactics Scale developed by Murray Strauss in the 1970s and the resulting concept of “gender symmetry” when it comes to violence. While I’m not sure if the OP got his info from this particular scale, it was indeed the CTS that popularized the idea of women committing just as much violence. However, the scale misses several important factors. It does not account for the cause or the context for these ‘conflicts’. In other words, a woman defending herself against her abusive male partner with a punch is treated the same as said partner punching her. It also excludes the motivation for violence. Women’s motivation is often self-defense. Additionally, the Conflict Tactics Scale omits instances of violence by former partners and, as we know, violence escalates after a separation. Richard Gelles, one of the original creators of the Conflict Tactics Scale had this to say: [W]hen we look at injuries resulting from violence involving male and female partners, it is categorically false to imply that there are the same number of “battered” men as there are battered women. Research shows that nearly 90 percent of battering victims are women and only about ten percent are men… The most brutal, terrorizing and continuing pattern of harmful intimate violence is carried out primarily by men. Emphasis mine. And here’s another quote. [Women are] physically injured to the point of needing medical attention seven times as often as husbands, they suffer psychological injury at much higher rates…[the] first priority in services for victims and in prevention and control must continue to be directed toward assaults by men. … It is important to recognize the tremendous contribution to human relationships and crime control made by feminist efforts to end violence against women. This effort has brought public attention the fact that PV (partner violence) may be the most prevalent form of interpersonal violence, created a world-wide determination to cease ignoring PV, and take steps to combat PV. It has brought the rule of law to one of the last spheres of life where ‘self-help’ justice…prevails by changing the legal status of domestic assaults, by changing police and court practices from one of ignoring and minimization PV to one of compelling the criminal justice system to attend and intervene. In addition, feminists have created two important new social institutions: shelters for battered women and treatment programs for male perpetrators. This quote was from Murray Strauss. You know…the guy who made the fucking scale. -- source link
