irishxcoffee:❝ Once again, Eileen was faced with the realization that the freedom she longed for had a high price - isolation - and that only by immersing herself in her work was she able to escape the perils of the patterns of life that other people were drawing around her. Eileen saw Damia one more time, in 1950, when they ran into each other on Rue Bonaparte; a year after Damia had given a recital in the Salle Pleyel. Eileen always kept the records, the dresses, the two evening coats by Poiret, and a couple of photographs of Damia inscribed with words of affection. She also kept a photograph of Damia as a middle-aged woman, a sign perhaps that the wounds had never entirely healed. ❞ — Eileen Gray: Her Life and Work by Peter Adam -- source link
