[Image: Photos of a person holding a mini zine, folded and unfolded, overlayed with a screenshot of a tweet that reads “consider: a new fandom zine event, but it’s me asking you all to embrace the power of diy and make a bunch of shitty (affectionate) single-sheet minis to photocopy and send as cheaply as possible to whoever wants them.” End ID]ICYMI: considering zines over on twitter. i am almost definitely hosting this, and it will almost definitely be polar-themed (accepting of all your cold boy fanworks as well as history, science, original art…)twitter thread (also copied below) and schedule poll, and a (currently empty) event twitter and tumblr—consider: a new fandom zine event, but it’s me asking you all to embrace the power of diy and make a bunch of shitty (affectionate) single-sheet minis to photocopy and send as cheaply as possible to whoever wants them(i don’t mean that as a diss at typical fanzines at all, i love em all, i just also love printing a bunch of black and white pages at home and spending the whole evening folding them as i am doing right now and would love to do More)—well now that *i* have considered it some more, here’s my current thoughts:to be clear by “mini zine” i’m talking about these – one sheet of paper, folded into an 8-page (incl. covers) booklet. easy to make, easy to reproduce. content can be whatever you want, illustration comics photos text collage, whatever, the sheet is your oyster[Image: photos of a person holding a blank mini zine, the first as an unfolded sheet of paper with pages marked and and the second folded into a booklet. End ID]so! a mini zine event, wherein participants make their own little zine about whatever they want so long as it’s loosely related to the event’s chosen theme, and then the zines are shared.simply hosting a gallery of printable files is the easiest way, but i’d like to offer print copies at-cost as well (in which case it’d help to have some non-US volunteers to manage printing/shipping in their region)as for theme, would folks prefer something general like polar regions or maritime history, or fandom-specific? (i am still consumed by boat brain, but if we do this and it goes well i’d happily do more with scifi or cowboys or gothic horror or what have you) [addendum: heavily leaning towards “polar regions” now]wouldn’t bother with sign-ups; an estimated headcount would be nice but no one else is relying on your thing in order to do their thing so dropping out or joining last-minute is a-okanyway! if this sounds remotely intriguing to anyone, let me know, and do voice any opinions on scheduling—other notes:you can make your zine completely on paper, i just need to have a digital copy of it in the end. so you can scan your zine (preferable), very carefully photograph it, or if neither of those are an option mail it to me and i’ll handle it & return the zine when we’re doneas far as Officially Starting An Event, it’ll be april 25th at the earliest.there will probably be a discord channel open for the duration and a new twitter + tumblr to share updates and previews, as you do. i’ll try to round up some links for inspiration and resources (like thematically-appropriate public domain image galleries) as well -- source link
