peashooter85:The Nagant “Private’s model” and “Officer’s Model”,When the M1895 was first produced by the Russians in at Tula and Ishvesk, as well as the Nagant factory in Belgium, they actually came in two versions. The first was a single action only version dubbed the “privates model” because it was mainly issued to non-commissioned officers and foot-soldiers. Because it was single action, the hammer had to be cocked with each shot. The other model, called the officers model, was made in double action, which means each pull of the trigger rotates the cylinder and cocks the hammer in one motion. The production of “private’s model” Nagant Revolvers ended after World War I in 1918, at which point all Nagant pistols were made double action. The only exceptions were special target models. Most single action Nagants were converted to double action as well. Today single action Nagant revolvers are very rare. -- source link
