The Gold Capelet Tank In Zooey Yarn Since all the spring patterns are coming out (just as I finish an autumnal sweater), I thought I would feature this cowlneck tank designed by Cathy Carron originally created for the Knit.Wear Spring 2012 issue. She made the cowl wide and deep so that it can be worn in several different ways, hence the capelet name. It is a relatively simple pattern which I had made before. My only alteration is making smaller armholes by crocheting around the edges until I liked the fit. The yarn is a cotton-linen blend by Juniper Moon Farm which I picked to match the flowers on a long skirt that I was making. Matching colors is pretty much a guess on the web, so I brought the swatch to my somewhat-local yarn shop, Garenhuis in Holland, Michigan. Thanks you, LYS. The color was perfect, as you can see in the second picture. But I didn’t realize I had gotten a fingering-weight yarn, not the thicker DK-weight called for in the pattern. Oops. So it ended up creating a fabric that was more sheer than I wanted. I sewed up a simple tank with some lightweight rayon-blend jersey to wear underneath. Next time I will have the sense to make a knitted swatch first to see how I like the resulting fabric. And next week, I will show you the skirt and the resulting ensemble. In the meantime, you can find this pattern on Ravelry.com which is a free website. You register and you can keep track of your patterns and creations, and read about how others have coped with projects and problems which is very useful. It also is a marketplace for buying patterns, yarn, etc.You can find Garenhuis Yarn Studio here: https://garenhuis.com/ -- source link
