philiptreblogswhateverhewants:kansascity-elffriend:saint-samwise:stormed-just-once:higherorder:This is highly disrespectful to the authors of these books and shouldn’t be allowed. Where does it end? What’s to stop them from renaming the characters to be “more diverse”? Once you’ve decided it’s permissible to tamper with a classic book like this, there’s not much stopping you from going further. Frankenstein’s monster is black now? There’s more implications the poz squad would be comfortable with. Not to mention a black Captain Ahab being obsessed with killing a white whale hehe.literally just make new stories and new characters folksIt’s just the covers, though. They’re not changing the text at all. Books get new covers all the time.I’m not sure this is really a big dealThe issue is where’s the line? At what point does altering a book stop? With the cover.Because classic novels get new covers literally every year.Don’t get me wrong, I think this is silly and not thought through very well (it looks like Alice in Wonderland might be Native American despite the book being very British), but I’m not sure it’s something to get worked up over. If you don’t like these editions, wait until next year and they’ll get new covers again. -- source link
