theycallmetheomelettedreamer: So, I went to see Behind the Boosh today, braving the cold weather and dragging a slightly reluctant non-fan friend behind me. First off, I’ll just say that the exhibition is stunningly beautiful. We all know Dave is an exceptional photographer, but some of these photographs were just…well. Let’s just say it was probably the closest to a religious experience I’ve had so far. There were probably about 50 photos in total, ranging from the near-iconic ones that have been going round tumblr or are in the Mighty Book of Boosh (Satsumas at Dawn and the original photo that they used for the radio show were both there) to the completely unseen (Julian in the Rudi wig and a t-shirt; a photo taken backstage at the filming of Fountain of Youth, complete with King and the infamous cowboy hat.) We managed to arrive halfway during a gig, so a beardy man playing acoustic lovesongs was our soundtrack - which didn’t help my emotional state, admittedly. These were the quiet moments of the Boosh. The personal moments, the backstage moments of quietly chatting and making each other laugh and drinking coffee in between takes. It was a hint of all the jokes and the laughing and the creation that went on in those rehearsal rooms that we’re never going to see and that it’s probably best that we don’t, but it’s everything I love about them. My personal favourite is the one at the top of this photoset, which is simply entitled Script Riff. I kept going back to it and stared at it for ages. I think it’s just…well. (Sorry about the shit quality, though. I was going quickly because I didn’t want a staff member to see and yell at me.) The other ones are ones you’ve probably seen before, but those are the postcards I bought. They only had a limited selection which was a bit of a shame, but these’ll brighten up the walls in my student accommodation. Go and see it, if you can. Can’t recommend anything higher. (Oh, and sorry for the wall of text.) I left just after the beardy man came on…. Must have just missed you!! -- source link
