She’s embarrassed by her appearance thanks to the purple veins on her skin, and she can’t quite come to terms with the fact that Rian, who is porbably the most handsome gelfling she has ever seen, could see something in her. She very much tries to sway Rians feelings toward her, saying how she’s a monster and that no one will look at her the same way again. “Look at me, Rian! Look at my hands, my arms! I’m a monster. I can’t show myself to anyone anymore. Gelfling were afraid to look at me before… now they have a perfectly good reason too now.” Rian, not caring about the Darkening my infecticting him, leans closer to Deet, grasping her hands in his and says, “Well… I don’t think your a monster. I think your… quite lovely…” Is that a paralellism to the scene when Rian sad because everybody is afraid of him and think he is a monster and Deet says she doesn’t fear him or think he is a monster? -- source link
