Kasuga Taisha -Nara Japan -110619(10) by Ann CollierVia Flickr:Kasuga Grand Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Nara, Nara Prefecture, Japan. It was established in 768 CE and rebuilt several times over the centuries, it is the shrine of the Fujiwara family. The interior is famous for its many bronze lanterns, as well as the many stone lanterns that lead up the shrine. The path to Kasuga Shrine passes through a deer park. In the deer park, deer are able to roam freely and are believed to be sacred messengers of the Shinto gods that inhabit the shrine and surrounding mountainous terrain. The Sika deer are very friendly and don’t seem to have any fear of humans, as the lady in the first shot demonstrates. -- source link
