Shampoo (1975).On Election Day, 1968, a hairdresser and ladies’ man is too busy cutting hair and dealing with his various girlfriends and his mistress, whose husband he meets and finds out is having an affair with his ex-girlfriend.This movie feels like such an embodiment of the late sixties / early seventies. From the shifts in fashion to the free love to the Hollywood commentary to the play arounds with typical gender roles. It makes for a loud, splashy film, but also one that’s distinctly hollow. The characters feel superficially drawn, particularly Warren Beatty’s leading man, and it never really goes anywhere satisfying. Still, it has it’s moments and some genuinely good performances, particularly from Lee Grant who won Best Supporting Actress for the role. 6/10. -- source link
