alwaysanoriginal: “It’s my position that our definitions and criteria, while presented as progressivism, feed back into the ‘on trial’ nature of recognition. We paint it black and white. You’ve either publicly demonstrated your queerness via widely acknowledged social convention – in this case, ‘coming out,’ preferably with a label – or you’re cishet. No matter what you say and do, no matter how you choose to lead your life, or how open you are, you have no right to the queer experience until you’ve conformed to cultural expectations. It’s a catch 22, heteronormativity and erasure wearing a social justice hat… There is more than one way to be openly queer. There is a language we all share, a mutual understanding of one another, a way of moving through the world and approaching things. We can recognize each other… Mostly only friendly eyes see them for what they are.” – @winchestersingerautorepair, in this post about this topic, which I recommend in full This is not a “shipping” post, because I do not ship celebrities, and am actually often loudly opposed to it. This is not a post about RPF. You will not see any of that kind of content on this blog, now or ever, because I personally feel very strongly about that. This is a post about how I’ve seen way too many uninformed takes and jokes about Jensen Ackles that have deeply bothered and frustrated me recently, based on my own genuine observations (as a queer person, yes) of the situation at hand. I really felt I had to say something. And to be even clearer: I am not advocating for speaking on Jensen’s behalf, or claiming he or his identity have been nefariously “silenced,” or some other such nonsense. Jensen is not a fictional character, and none of us know what’s truly going on in his head in full scope. I would never claim otherwise. I’m just hoping this might be enlightening for some people for whom this might not have occurred to them. Beyond that: I will not be taking further questions at this time.
