eric-coldfire: swsequelsalt: One of the things I was most excited about seeing in the Star Wars sequel trilogy was seeing Luke in battle after decades of further growth and learning in the Force. These panels from Dark Empire really speak to the kind of thing I expected to see: He didn’t need to make flashy moves, but I figured he could probably do incredible things with the Force. Maybe lift up groups of enemy troops and toss them like pebbles? Imagine seeking Luke crush an Imperial Walker with just his mind and a slight wave of his hand — on the big screen, with Mark Hamill bringing it to life. Sadly, if you want to see this kind of development in one of the greatest heroes of cinema, you’ll have to go to comics and books. Luke never saw battle in the sequels, barely used the Force at all, and mostly just did so when he opted to play make-believe that he was gonna actually do something. And then… he died somehow. The end. They even inadvertently tease how strong Luke is as a Master through Ben. “Oh! Kylo Ren is so strong he can freeze a blaster bolt mid-air? I bet he learned it from Luke, which means Luke is strong enough to freeze even more!” Like a squad of Stormtroopers open fire on him, and the volley freezes. Luke makes some cutesy comment like “you should be more careful, you could hurt someone with those.” The volley dissipates, then with a waves of his hand, the blasters fall to pieces. But no… Old Man Luke is so weak, he can lose a fight against a girl with a strick and die making a force skype call. Ok. -- source link
