magic-edh-talk: The Gitrog Monster (oh yes. It’s going to feel good crushing people with a damn frog. All hail the hypno Gritog Toad)Alright, The Gritog monster doesn’t look too flashy at first, but if you look closer you’ll see that you’ve already gone 0-13 with this monster and you probably ought to recruit one yourself. First let’s look at that body. 5 for a 6/6 isn’t unheard of, but deathtouch makes it an incredible commander. Deathtouch isn’t something I see on a lot of legendary creatures, and its amazing because it turns it into an incredible blocker. Is there a 30/30 that’s swinging at you every turn? not anymore. Or it’s dead. Either way the problem is taken care of.Anyways, let’s get some value out of this bugger. First we’ll take advantage of his draw ability. Titania, Mazirek and Zuran orb let you abuse this to great effect. Getting you +1/+1 counters, life, card draw and 5/3 creatures regularly. But there has to be more to life than winning with obvious choices, hasn’t there. More obvious choices? well, if you insist.Worm Harvest is a great card in this deck. Since the Gritog Monster lets you draw every time you retrace a card, you could theoretically cast it 2 or 3 times in a turn, getting 10 or 15 wurms. With Mazirek you’ll only go further putting a huge number of +1/+1 counters on them (especially because you’ll run evolving wilds and teramorphic expanse to get more draw triggers of the Gritog.)Psychosis Crawler is a great way to make sure your sacrifices have a little bit more of a lasting effect. draining your opponent two life every turn isn’t going to turn the tide regularly, but it will sneak one or two victories in every once and a while. Not to mention that the extra body on the field will go a long ways towards a victory to begin with. That’s all for now! Here’s a decklist (the Gritog Monster isn’t on Tappedout yet, so it isn’t going to be listed as the commander, but you can hopefully get the idea. I’ll change it when I’m able.) -- source link
