Flashbacks of her time at USC, where she was made to take an abundance of other cinema courses, such as lighting and scene-setting; sure she wasn’t an expert in either, she had never claimed to be, but she did know how to capture a moment in time, a sincere scene, in one’s life, as if the viewers were watching someone’s life, peering into a part of who they were, whether it be a mother and wife, scrambling to get to her child’s second-grade performance after leaving her lover, or two teenagers whose prom was interrupted by an infestation of zombies. “Well it wouldn’t have taken so long if you stopped fidgeting with your shirt, is it uncomfortable?” Nina enquired, extending an eyebrow as she laced her arms across her chest, she had picked the peachy-colour because it compliments Qian’s soft skin. “No, no it’s fine,” Qian said, senselessly, closing one eye as she stared into the camera lens. “Okay, I’m ready, now I’m going to trade places with you and you’re going to take a photograph of me, so I know it looks okay when I’m there—” A lot went into creating a shot, one could not just point a camera and expect it to appear as a Kazuo Miyagawa movie. “Or you could just trust me,” Nina murmured, which elicited an eye roll from Qian, “or we could do it ten or fifteen times,” she said, seeing the look on Nina’s face; she knew her friend was hungry and Qian promised to treat her as soon as they were done, and Nina knew what a perfectionist Qian was, so better to do it with one or two takes, than fifteen or Qian would obsess over every little thing. “Okay, and action—” A smile splayed across her features, with her shoulder-length hair, and expressive eyes, “hi, I’m Song Qian, I am from China, but I have lived in the United States and Japan, and am a cinematographer. I look forward to training and will work hard and do my best so I can show you who I am. Please follow me on this amazing journey, 화이팅!” ▸ ▸ ▸ WHY AM I HERE.• • • Aspirations? Qian despised this question, as she was first asked when she was five, and her kindergarten teacher asked the class to draw their dream job. Qian, who had decided to live one day at a time, rather than focus on her future, a carefree and cheerful girl, was at a lost as she started to draw a field with flowers. Later, her teacher said her drawing was unacceptable, to which Qian lied and said she wanted to own a farm. Later, as she got older, and the questions flooded in, and kids were preparing for the university entrance exams, Qian felt the immense pressure that was placed on them, there was no lying her way out of this one, she simply did not know. For a time, she wanted to be an astronomer, study the stars, stare at them, until she was dizzy. But now, she simply was not sure. Chewing on the end of her pen, Qian’s lungs compressed as she continued, “okay, you can do this.” Qian said, before straightening her spine, “hi I’m Song Qian and my goal is to work hard so I can confidently debut with an agency of my dreams. I want to be able to show you all the work I have done and thank you for the support, which only fuels my fire. I want to better myself, as a person and a performer so I can inspire those to be strong and work hard. And I want to make sure I can be a person you will can always trust and cheer for, and be your rock when life is hard.” FOLLOW ME • MESSAGE ME • READ ALL ABOUT ME▸ ▸ ▸ WELCOME TO ROOKIES, SONG QIAN !• • • ROOKIES ! is a closed, literate KRP that follows the triumphs and heartaches of original characters living in Seoul and trying to find their way in the competitive world of K-Pop.
