black-is-no-colour: John Galliano, 1997. Photographer Derek Hudson published these images in September 2017. He said about the portrait: “This was the first portrait I made of John Galliano and of all the occasions between 1997 and 2008 I come back to this one every time. … I took this portrait in his Paris 11th arrondissement atelier and what I remember most of all about it, other than waiting forever for him to appear, was his vulnerability. He struck me as incredibly timid. Nervous. Heavy on the cigarettes. Perfectly amiable yet somehow uncomfortable when I expected the opposite. It surprised me. Made me a little nervous. I tried to capture this. … The reason for this portrait was that he had just been named to take over Christian Dior, having been the first British designer to head a haute couture house when appointed head designer at Givenchy in 1995.” Copyright © Derek Hudson -- source link
