doctortay: theconcealedweapon: Some people are commenting by saying that when an employee is fired, it’s because the employee did something wrong. But the same is true when someone quits. Usually an employee quits because their boss did something wrong. For example, if the boss doesn’t pay a living wage, then the boss has been doing something wrong for literally every second that the employee was there. I was fired because I was wrong for the job, plain and simple. The way the position was described in the job posting and explained to me in the interview and in “training” was misleading, which caused me to be a bad fit for the job. I did everything “right,” but they were looking for a copyeditor and I am a writer and curriculum designer. A bad fit with a bad company. I was fired for this after four months, with absolutely no warning. The managers I had been working with didn’t even tell me–I got a call from someone in HR I had never spoken to, informing me that I was being terminated immediately. Literally up until the moment I answered that phone call, the managers I had been working with since day one were acting as if everything was fine. I was locked out of my work laptop/email minutes after the phone call. The next day when I started job hunting again, lo and behold, I see the job posting to hire my replacement. It had been posted more than 3 weeks earlier. For AT LEAST 3 weeks, they had been planning to fire me, had been searching for and interviewing my replacement, had been planning to cut me loose at a moment’s notice, and I had no idea. I was anxious because I knew I was struggling to do what they wanted, but I foolishly assumed a professional organization would at least have basic integrity and respect for its employees. I could have started looking for a replacement job at least 3 weeks earlier, could have possibly shortened the incredibly stressful and terrifying experience of being unemployed…but since my employer lacked basic respect for me as a person, they didn’t. So yeah, it’s fucked up that employers can treat employees like garbage and capitalism has conditioned us/forces us to not only accept it, but go out of our way to enable it. Fuck that shit. -- source link
