The Weekenders 21st Anniversary Celebration Week — Opening Theme: “We had the music, but we kept writing different lyrics for it because nobody ever liked anything. So I said: “I used to do improv with Wayne Brady, let me just give him a call and ask if he wants to do this.” He was like: “Hey! How did you get my number?” and I said: “It’s me! From improv!” Because he had become famous in the interim. I asked him: “You wanna do this? You just write something, come in and record it. It’d be a few day’s work, and then you’d get residuals.” And he was like: “Alright.” One day going into the studio I walked past him sitting in his car and I realized “He’s writing the lyrics on a napkin.” He was literally coming up with the lyrics in the car right before recording. It didn’t really surprise me, I used to do song improv with him and he could improvise a good song. So, giving him a few extra minutes meant you would get a solid song. He did it and everybody loved it. He recorded it in two takes.” - Doug Langdale (The Movie Podcast) -- source link
