The Weekenders 21st Anniversary Celebration Week — Families: “When I was a kid the majority of my friend’s parents were divorced. But most of them had remarried, so not as many were living in a single parent house like I was. We didn’t see Tino’s father until the end of the series. My parents got divorced in Massachusetts where I lived when I was a child, then we moved to San Diego so my dad was on the other side of the country, I didn’t get to see him very often. We did the same on the show. At some point Ms Tonitini got a boyfriend, so that too was based on my childhood experience. It wasn’t completely unusual at the time, but you didn’t get to see it very often on TV. I did want to depict different kinds of household.” - Doug Langdale (The Movie Podcast) -- source link
