studysimple: Hey hey!! I took AP Chemistry and passed the AP exam, so I thought I would share some tips with you!! *Also! At my school you take AP Chem as your first, and only, chemistry class so I had a very basic knowledge of chem before this class so you are all probably 10 times more prepared then I was already!Tips:Do the homework! All the worksheets your teacher gives you, the 10 page long study guides (if you’re lucky)? Yea, definitely do all of them. And then do them all again. AP Chem is a lot of application of your knowledge and especially when you get to acid-base eq, the problem can be given to you a million different ways, so practice practice practice. If your teacher assigns optional reading, and encourages you to read from the textbook, maybe take it with a grain of salt? Personally, I tried to get stuff out of reading the textbook but it was no help at all and generally just a waste of my time. Try it out though! Find out if reading from the book works for you, and if it does, keep on doing it.Don’t miss class. A day in AP Chem is like a whole week in CP. The class moves quickly, becuase there is a ton you have to learn. If you do miss class, get a friend to record it (if the teacher is okay with that), or if your school is on a block schedule, try and make it to another one of your teachers AP Chem classes on the next day.During class, ask questions! Even if it may seem like the dumbest question, ask it anyways! Who gives a frick about what other people think? Ask your question and get that clarification, even on the simplest of things. And if people judge you, you can laugh in their face when you get a better grade or AP score than them.On a similar note, don’t judge other people if they ask a question you think is obvious! The class has a weird reputation and competitive air about it, help each other out and support one another!Take notes during class, I cannot emphasize this enough. Even if your teacher provides notes, take notes while they are lecturing. When you get home, if time allows, rewrite your notes so they are pretty and organized. If time doesn’t allow you to do that, try and at least read your notes over.Study and practice a little every night so that you are prepared for any tests/quizzes. The night, or week before the test/quiz, really hunker down and take a significant amount of time our of your day to dedicate to reviewing.I really really cannot emphasize how important it is to start studying early and to do your homework! If you do this, and ask questions and pay attention in class, you should be golden! Some final things about the AP exam in May specifically. Eat a good, light breakfast. Go into the test confident and relaxed. Don’t move to fast or too slow through the multiple choice, do full practice multiple choice weeks before the exam to find out what pace works for you. If you finish early, remember no one is too good check their answers. On the free response if you don’t know how to do the math, write down the equation you would use or method you would use and explain off of that.Resources:The official periodic table (**Use it when doing homework/practicing!)The official equation sheet (**)Hank Green’s crash course ChemistryBozeman Science AP Chem playlistOrganic Chemistry nomenclature videos (*this is no longer tested on the AP exam, however I know some classes still review it)Eric Zuckerman’s youtube channel. Stay motivated and don’t give up! I believe in you and best of luck! -- source link
