Leather shoe with a “poulaine” or elongated toe. In the mid-to late-1300s, it was very fashionable to have long, tapering toed shoes, worn by the aristocracy and the fashion-conscious. The longer the toe, the higher the social status. Since they were so difficult to walk, work, or fight in, those with the most leisure time could have the longest poulaines.
