midnighttrain-project:As I already announced, I’m working on an improved version of Midnight Train. This new version will be a big update that will add many new features to the game, such as new art and new endings. The goal is to improve the game as much as possible and release it to Steam. The updated version will be free. One of the new features I would like to add is voice acting, similar to the one that was featured in my last game, Aria’s Story. That means it won’t be fully voiced lines, only reaction sounds like laughs, sighs, grunts and gasps.[HOW TO APPLY]Send an e-mail to midnighttrain.project@gmail.com with the link or files of your samples. You also need to include the following information:-Your name or nickname (it will be used for the credits). -The name of the character you’re auditioning for.You can audition for more than one character. In fact, this is encouraged, as you could be selected for more than one character. Also, there’s a possibility I find your voice suitable for another character you didn’t audition for. In that case, I’ll contact you asking if it’s okay to have you voice another character. The deadline will be on November 10.(I might extend the deadline if necessary, but I need to start including the voices into the game as soon as possible, that’s why the deadline is a bit strict.)[REQUERIMENTS]The main requirement is to have good microphone quality with minimum background noise. Also, in order to make the process easier, I made a graphic for all the characters with their most used expressions in the game. That means your auditions should at least cover a reaction sound that matches the expression I included (minus for Luna Wyndell, I only included her standard expression because you can’t see her expressions in-game). That’s the minimum, you can add as many sounds as you want (I encourage you to add as many as possible so I can hear what you’re capable of!)Another thing to keep in mind is that the game is completed. If you have played the game, you know the personalities of the characters and their roles in the game, which will make the process much easier for you.The current version of Midnight Train can be downloaded here: DOWNLOAD[ROLES](I included the character portraits of the current version of Midnight Train in the following pictures, but all of them will be redrawn in the update.)As I mentioned earlier, it’s important that your submissions include a reaction sound that matches the expressions in the images. I added my thoughts on what I think it’s important for each character, but as long as you include reaction sounds that could be used with these expressions, it will be fine. It’s just some extra info or recommendations that I think are helpful.Character 01: Neil LawtonThe audition for this character is probably the most important one, as he’s the character that appears the most in the entire game. Neil is very friendly and gentle, but also gets scared easily (though he gets more confident as the game progresses). Different types of laughs (embarrassed laugh, gentle laugh, confident laugh…) and gasps (scared and surprised) are important for this character. It would also be nice to include some kind of pensive reaction sound, as he’s always making theories and deductions!Character 02: Diana LovelaceDiana’s expressions are very different compared to the other characters. She’s socially awkward and gets very nervous talking to other people, so she usually has a nervous expression. Having a variety of sounds that cover her nervousness is important. Like Neil, she also gets scared easily. While not a malicious character, some “creepy laughs” may be required for certain scenes. She becomes the main character in the bonus and becomes more confident, so you can also include others sounds that reflect this change!Character 03: Apollo CarsonApollo actually doesn’t have that many expressions, only variations of the ones I included in the image. He’s blunt and aggressive, but he can also be very kind. He likes to make fun of Neil, so he sometimes has a smug expression. Grunts of pain will also be necessary for a certain scene.Character 04: Selene AmbroseThe most expressive character in the entire game. It was difficult to choose only 6 expressions for her. A loud and optimistic character with a lot of energy. She has a lot of smiling expressions, so having many laughs will be necessary for her. Ironically, she’s also the character that cries the most, so take this into consideration. She also gets serious when the situation is important. Honestly, you can get very creative with her, she can have many reaction sounds.Character 05: PurityUnlike Selene, she doesn’t show many emotions. Yes, she only uses 2 different expressions in the game. That’s it. A permanent smile. While she doesn’t show emotions with her face, perhaps she could show her emotions with her voice. You can get creative here, if you want. She does get more screen time in the new version, where she finally shows more emotions, but… I won’t say much more. I will discuss this matter with the chosen VA. Also, I think a mature voice would suit her!Character 06: JusticeJustice is usually calm and composed, and also very friendly. However, if things don’t go the way he wants, he can lose his composure. A deep voice would probably fit him.Like Purity, you will discover a new side of him in the update. I will discuss this matter with the chosen VA.Character 07: CopycatA bit difficult to see her expressions with the mask she’s wearing, right? She’s actually quite a cheerful girl. You can use your voice to show her emotions, even if the mask covers her mouth! If you’re thinking about auditioning for Selene, I recommend to audition for Copycat too! She’s not as loud and energetic, but she’s very friendly like her!In the update, you will be able to see her expressions without the mask. If necessary, I will discuss this matter with the chosen VA.Character 08: Luna WyndellAnd the last role is… The protagonist, Luna Wyndell! If you have played the game, you will know that Luna is congenitally mute. That doesn’t mean she’s unable to make any sounds. It’s mentioned in-game that her laughter is basically air coming through her nose. She can make other sounds like gasps too. Basically, sounds that don’t require vocal cords. In the game, she acts like a typical silent protagonist, so her portraits and expressions are never seen (only through CGs and sprite animations). If you audition for another character, I recommend to audition for Luna as well, she requires very few sounds.[FINAL THOUGHTS]If I can’t find a suitable VA for all the characters, then this feature will be canceled and won’t be added to the game. That’s why I encourage everyone to try to audition for as many characters as possible! The new update will include new characters that will also need to be voiced, like Delia Miller. I’ll open auditions for these characters in the future. Thank you for all the support! Without all this support, this new update wouldn’t be possible. I’m extremely grateful. I can’t wait to hear all the wonderful auditions! -- source link
