theroughcopy: Quality doesn’t matter as much as effort. I know, I know, in the long run, your readers will appreciate the quality of your writing more than the fact that you wrote at all, I get it, but we’re not talking about them. Forget them. Write crap and keep doing it until the story’s through. Now, you can’t finish every project – some are most definitely better off abandoned. There’s no real shame in that because you needed to move on. It’s cool. But, sometimes, you just have to prove to yourself that you can finish something. Prove to yourself that even if takes you much longer than you want, even if it’s done a word a day, you’ll finish this thing. Agonizing over quality can sometimes make you write less (which is why people will always tell you to write crap for the first draft). Instead, focus on one thing only: finishing. Your drive to improve is really super mega important, and it’s awesome, but sometimes you just have to focus on rewarding yourself for working on it at all. Remember, even if it’s crap, even if it’s just a few sentences, it’s there, and that means you’re closer to being done. Effort adds up. -- source link
