introvertedrock: unified-multiversal-theory: tetraterezi: lizzy-b: alrightanakin: strange-book-club: alrightanakin: After 11 years of wondering if Turkish Delight is good enough to sell out my family I finally made some so..is it? well if i was a 10 year old in 1940 during world war ii when there was sugar rationing and i had been sent away to some stranger’s house with my siblings who (particularly the elder 2) were being real jerks and i had no idea that the seemingly kind lady offering the turkish delight was the literal embodiment of evil™ who would kill my family and myself once she no longer had any use for us then yeah i would do it i mean, yeah, thank you for highlighting Edmund’s often overlooked perspective here… but damn is that a big qualifier. Its just like roses and nuts isnt it? It’s a candy made from sugar and starch, with a texture like a very firm gelatin. It’s often flavored with something highly aromatic, like rose water, bergamot or other citrus, plain or with nuts suspended in it. The outside is dusted with sugar to keep it from sticking. My favorite was always rose with pistachios. I just thought it tasted very gross and didn’t live up to the hype from watching the movie when I was a little kid. Also, often overlooked, is that the movie did not explain the situation at all. In the book, she asks him if he would like something to eat while they chat, and he says Turkish Delights. She then gives him ENCHANTED Turkish Delights. The White Witch gives others this kind of enchanted food that will make them crave that exact food so much that they will do anything to get it. Which is why she mentions that they have so much Turkish Delights in her castle….so that later, while he is craving her enchanted Turkish Delights like its cocain, he will think of nothing but getting back to the castle to get more. Add on that Peter and Susan were on his case about everything and everyone was mad at him anyway because he had lied about not going to Narnia….AND that the White Witch had said she was going to make him Prince of Narnia, and only needed his siblings to come as his servants (not to kill them)…it makes sense :) -- source link
