One of the most interesting and noteworthy places to visit here in Greece are the healing mud baths near Lydia. The history of the modern discovery of their powers goes something like this…a farmer noticed that his sick cow, after laying in this substance, the mud, made a rapid recovery. The location does not exactly offer one a typical ‘spa’ experience, where one is covered with the mud by a aesthetician , it is an actual lake, or pool of mud that you climb into, roll around in, and try to sink into. The mud keeps you afloat, so you can crawl on top of it.Besides the great benefits for the skin and any skin disease ( eczemas, acne, psoriasis, dermatitis), the mud has also been proven to have medicinal effects on rheumatological disorders, gynecological diseases, cardiovascular diseases as well as diseases of the nervous system. It is so interesting to be there and just hear the stories of healing from all of the old folks present. Truly amazing…and a great laugh to transform yourself into a ’ mud creature’ . After spending 40 minutes to one hour inside the pool, you stand in the sun to allow the substance to dry a bit and then stand under the strong pressure of the shower, which is also therapeutic water. The effects of the mud continue so it is inappropriate to use any soaps. My personal opinion is that this substance completely clears the 'energy body’ or aura giving you the sense or feeling that you have never been cleaner! There are separate pools for men and women, so all you wear is your 'birthday suit’!
