historicpicturess: In 1980 the Olympic Games took place in Moscow, Russia, during the era of Communism. The Russians, as usual, wanted to win all the golden medals. During the games an athlete, the Polish pole vaulter W. Kozakiewicz, won the title of olympic champion and set a new world record. After the jump, the Soviet public started to whistle and shout offensive words at him. The athlete did then this gesture twice to make them understand where to go. The picture went all around the world, the Soviet leaders wanted to withdraw the medal, but failed. -- source link
