foxintwilight: grablepony: mylittledoxy: americanninjax: pepperonideluxe: BUTTMAN“Go outside” is a pretty condescending way to give good advice, and “let people draw whatever they want” is the worst way to give the best advice. It’s not just a good idea because you are bothering somebody minding their own business and that- y’know, I shouldn’t have to explain why that’s wrong- but rallying against stuff on the internet that makes you angry helps build the foundation that that_thing_that_makes_you_angry exists on. It’s a lose-lose. Or a win-win for that_thing_that_makes_you_angry.Letting people draw what they want =/= condoning the things they draw.Making a call out post for something trivial* you hate results in three possibilities when people see it;1. Neutral, nothing happens.2. People like it, make it more popular with one more person, share it*, and start that process with all their followers 3. People get angry, share it*, and start that process with all their followers As a flowchart; The only negative outcome for that_thing_that_makes_you_angry is people not giving a shit about it. Worst case scenario for that_thing_that_makes_you_angry is nobody giving a shit about it. So yeah. Doing the best things for you, and responding to art you HATE by creating art you love is good for you and helps the thing you hate die in obscurity. Which is a win-win. Or a lose-lose for that_thing_that_makes_you_angry.* Trivial should be given an asterix, because I’m specifically talking about stuff that doesn’t interrupt other people’s lives in a traumatic way and/or breaks any laws. Outing someone as a sexual predator MIGHT (MIGHT!!) actually be protecting people; calling out someone for drawing a cartoon the wrong color protects absolutely nobody from anything.* Sharing it could also include reposing it in a positive light, arguing with you about it, or creating any sort of rhetoric that makes that_thing_that_makes_you_angry more popular, good for it, bad for you. Well this was an amazing breakdown. Love it. When my tumblr account was temporarily terminated for similar reasons to this, prismblush.com received 3 times the traffic it has EVER received before or since. To qoute Oscar Wilde “there is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.“ My face when the Buzzfeed clickbait actually happened to me -- source link
