7 Electrons Guest Artist - Jim Campbell Jim Campbell, more than any other artist, made me aware that there were engineer artists in the world. Back in 2008 Jinna and I visited the Getty in our native Los Angeles and by luck there was a Campbell exhibit going on that featured some of his low resolution works. It was the first time since viewing Nam Jun Paik that I was as interested in the technical aspect of a work as the work itself. I emailed Jim that night and he was extremely nice and wrote back to me within hours. He explained that each pixel he used contained a high power LED and a PIC micro-controller. Each pixel communicated via rs-232 over a two wire bus which became part of the artwork. Jim is an inspiration because he was able to take his engineering career and turn it into a full time art career, making an immortal stamp on the art world.
