uwmspeccoll: A Ceramic Decorative SundayThis Sunday we showcase plates from La Céramique Chinioise, a two-volume portfolio set with 40 loose plates in each volume. Printed in 1921 and published in 1922 by Éditions Albert Morancé of Paris, the set highlights the collection of Chinese ceramics held by the Louvre. Each volume includes an introductory text written by archeologist, art historian, and Louvre curator Jean-Joseph Marquet de Vasselot in conjunction with museum attaché Marie Juliette Ballot. Albert Morancé was an editor and publisher whose firm, Éditions Albert Morancé, specialized in architectural and fine arts books and magazines. Notable serial publications include magazine Byblis, which focused on engraving and book arts, and the avant-garde architectural journal L’architecture vivant. As the head of commercial and technical services for the Réunion des Musées Nationaux, Morancé edited the catalogs and museum editions for the Louvre, which were subsequently published and printed by his firm. An advertisement of the Éditions Albert Morancé publications produced in this capacity occupy the pastedowns of the first volume of La Céramique Chinioise while advertisements for Byblis and L’architecture Vivant are found at the back of the second volume.
