Ruthenium in SteelThough not a commercially available alloying element, largely due to its cost, the effects of the addition of ruthenium to steel have been considered and researched. In general, the addition of small amounts of ruthenium (and other platinum group metals, such as palladium) has been found to increase the corrosion resistance of certain stainless steels, especially in non-oxidizing environments.
