I really like the abstract qualities of this image. It’s actually a 3D reconstruction of interwoven nerve fibres in a mantis shrimps eye, and one of the winning images from our Art in Neuroscience award. Captured by Hanne Theon in the Marshall lab @qldbraininstitute It’s an incredible time to be exploring how the brain works using fluorescence imaging. The images we capture are not only beautiful, they are allowing us to make profound discoveries about consciousness and perception. They are also helping us to understand what happens as our brain ages, so that it’s possible to prevent and treat dementia. -- source link
