geckoroverse: bogleech: Actual insects: cool, elegant, beautiful alien beings full of natural character.Cartoon insects: man-faced nightmare troll muppets. Yes, even you Jiminy, you would look like a fever dream in the real world. And I kind of like that, just not in the intended way. I am rather charmed by the haunting, rubbery ghouls that are ” ” ” cute ” ” ” cartoon insects. Ward Kimball, I’m fairly certain, was well aware. Apparently Jiminy actually did give him a hell of a time when he was working on him, due to early Disney principles and appeals he was working with - at least, if my memory recalls. He was also regarded as the funniest animator of the 9 Old Men for good reason, I think. :VGenerally though, back in the day insect faces were probably a rather abstract thing to touch on in detail back in the day, especially with the principles of animation coming into formation and such. Nowadays more understanding and integration of insects into culture and such lets us play up the more natural features of insects in characters, albeit for some audiences it still seems to strike as “unappealing”. Guess you can’t win everyone, but I do like seeing some natural-like insect designs come up. oh my god the skeleton one. What’s the source on this? I think I need to do an in-depth article sometime on uncanny bugtoons -- source link
