Serena Stark should have been next in line to inherit Winterfell and the North after her grandfather
Serena Stark should have been next in line to inherit Winterfell and the North after her grandfather Cregan Stark died but instead was married to her father’s half brother, Edric Stark. They had four children together, twin sons Cregard and Torrhen, Aregelle, and Arrana. The boys likely died young, but Aregelle married Robard Cerwyn and Arrana married Osric Umber. Both had issue. Edric predeceased his older brother Jonnel, so was the only son of Lynara Stark to not become Lord of Winterfell. Presumably by the time Jonnel Stark died, the twins, Cregard and Torrhen, were already dead and thus did not inherit. So Aregelle and Arrana, like their mother and her sister, were passed over in favor of their uncle. Serena was denied Winterfell once for herself and once for her children. At some point Serena married Jon Umber, I’m guessing after Edric died, to avoid any trouble she might cause (and I like to think she caused a lot of trouble). In any case, it’s very plausible that Arrana was married to her stepbrother. -- source link
