tinylongwing:These are some of the most technical illustrations I’ve ever done, and I’m so honored to be able to contribute to ornithology in this way! Out now in Ornithology is a paper by my colleague Peter Pyle and his coauthors that improves the global age coding system known as WRP (for Wolfe-Ryder-Pyle, its three inventors) that can be used to document ages and molt cycles for all birds around the globe. Typically these kinds of papers don’t involve illustrations at all, but the authors really wanted to make sure everyone had clear images of how to use the age codes for birds in various plumages, and I’m thrilled that I could provide them. The Institute for Bird Populations has a more public-accessible blog post version of all the details, read it here! Maybe these are easier to appreciate if you see a few up close! -- source link
